Boost to shoebox donation is a step in the right direction
This year’s Rotary Christmas Shoebox Appeal has received a massive boost from State Street employees who have prepared 700 shoeboxes for disadvantaged children in Montenegro and Tanzania.
The Rotary Club De La Manche aims to send around 2000 boxes each year and calls for Islanders to put together their own shoeboxes to support the appeal.
The shoeboxes, which each contain a range of toiletries, educational supplies and toys are transported to their destinations where they are distributed by Rotary members and their contacts in time for Christmas.
Tina Palmer, head of the Rotary Club De La Manche’s International Committee, commented:
"We continue to be humbled by, and grateful for, the generosity of staff working for financial organizations in Jersey such as State Street. Such efforts make a huge difference to children in some very poor areas of the world and will put smiles on their faces this Christmas. Particular mention must go to the State Street employee who put together over 500 of the shoeboxes – a tremendous effort.”
Staff at State Street, and under the former Mourant International Finance Administration business, have been supporting the Annual Appeal for 10 years.- 11 November 2010
