Young Enterprise Company Programme Underway with a Record Number of Professionals Involved
The Young Enterprise Company Programme for 2010-2011 is well underway with the involvement of over 90 Achievers, more than 65 Advisers, and a new Chairman.
Through the scheme, the students who are known as ‘Achievers’, have the opportunity to develop attitudes and skills for personal success, lifelong learning and employability. In their teams, they set up and run a company; appoint a board of directors; raise share capital; then finance, market and sell their product or service. The YE companies are then liquidated following an Awards Ceremony at the end of the school year.
This year six YE companies have been formed by students from Beaulieu, De La Salle, Hautlieu, Highlands, Jersey College for Girls, and Victoria College. The companies will be mentored by Advisers from Deloitte, IFG Trust, HSBC, NatWest, Regus and State Street.
The Young Enterprise scheme continues to attract partnerships from across a range of business sectors in the Island and a greater number than ever before of specialist Advisers are on hand to assist the Young Achievers, including the YE Area Board, the Company Advisers, Link Teachers, an Expert Panel of Mentors from a range of specialist areas, as well as the Chartered Institute of Marketing, the States of Jersey ECO-ACTIVE scheme; the Rotary Club of Jersey; and more recently, Envestors and the Chartered Institute of Professional Development.
Beverley Le Cuirot, Chief Executive of Immediate Impact, Immediate Past Chairman of the CIM, and former Deputy Chairman of Young Enterprise, has recently been voted in as Chairman of Young Enterprise in Jersey. She commented:
“In addition to the essential support from the Link Teachers and Business Advisers who make the scheme such a success year after year, one of our more recent aims has been to create a broad resource of specialist Advisers, across a range of professions, to provide guidance to the YE companies on an ‘as needs’ basis.
“This is starting to come to fruition with a host of experts coming forward to express interest, whether through a professional institute, their own employers or on an individual basis. I believe that having a diverse range of professionals available will greatly enrich the Young Enterprise experience for the Achievers.
“Young Enterprise has a strong tradition of increasing the likelihood that Achievers will go on to set up their own business, so it provides a fantastic opportunity for the students who hopefully will become our entrepreneurs of the future.”
