Can we Tempt you?

Temping is increasingly becoming the preferred solution for people in all different situations, whether it be whilst they are seeking permanent employment, school leavers/graduates considering their options and gaining some work experience before making a commitment, or semi-retired individuals who are still keen to have some sort of working life but for fewer hours. It is ultimately a very productive way of learning new skills.

The pace for temping can often be fast moving and challenging, and more frequently employers are seeking individuals who are able to use their own initiative and who are ’on the ball’.

Temping allows a great insight into the culture of a company and the diversity of positions available. As with a jigsaw there are often many different departments, who work together to complete one process; temping in various areas allows for all the pieces to fall into place whilst gaining valuable work experience.

Confidence plays a big part in gaining a temporary or contract position and, whereas in the past employers have been happy to take on a candidate without going through the interview process, in the last 18 months we have seen an increase in the number of employers requesting an interview with the candidate before committing to taking them on, therefore the more confidence you have in your abilities the better. We would advise all candidates attending interviews to research the company; this will impress the client and demonstrate your interest in the role.

Requirements To Work In Guernsey

Owing to Guernsey’s offshore position and the strict control on population figures, candidates relocating to the island will require a Housing Licence prior to registering with our agency.

If you relocate to the island and are residing in Open Market accommodation you will be able to obtain a Right to Work document.

If you are living En-Famille with a local family/partner you should be granted a temporary licence, which will only remain valid as long as your situation remains unchanged.

A shortage of a specific skill may require recruitment of a non-locally qualified individual with relevant experience / knowledge. In a situation such as this the Guernsey Housing Authority may grant a special licence when provided with evidence of the need for the employer to recruit such an individual. We the agency are not perceived to be the employer and therefore it is the client that would need to supply such information.
