RBC’S MARATHON RUNNERS RAISE £10K

Staff from RBC Wealth Management are on target to raise over £10,000 for local charities following an impressive entry in this year’s Jersey Marathon.

This year, the company entered 40 relay teams and 11 full marathon runners, a record total of 211 staff from across the Channel Islands and the UK and more than double their original target of 100 runners.

The team included visually impaired employee Jenny Stafford, who ran leg four of the relay covering 4.5miles with her friend, guide and colleague Helen Barker.

Jenny and Helen were part of the RBC Penthouse Panthers team which raised a total of £300 for local charity Seeing is Believing – one of the three official charities of the Jersey Marathon and a charity which is particularly poignant for Jenny.

‘I chose Seeing Is Believing as they do great work to provide eye care to people who would not normally receive it,’ she explained.

‘As a visually impaired person I know the difficulties, challenges and prejudice that people can face daily. Having the opportunity to run in the marathon as part of a RBC relay team was fantastic. I did it as a personal challenge and I really enjoyed the day.’

‘There was a great atmosphere and the support from the people along the route was fantastic. I’m also very thankful to my running buddy Helen Barker – I couldn't have done it without her.’

Paul Patterson, Head of RBC Wealth Management in the British Isles, also took part this year and is delighted with the staff involvement and overall fundraising effort.

‘As a team we have raised an impressive amount of money again,’ he said.

‘The enthusiasm for the Jersey Marathon among our staff just highlights their genuine commitment. I want to extend my congratulations to all our teams and in particular to the RBC Penthouse Panthers who have shown excellent team spirit in supporting Jenny. A notable achievement for her personally and a great sum raised for Seeing is Believing.’
