The finance industry began to arrive in the late 1960s, attracted by the friendly tax laws, political stability and the excellent standards of education. Since that time the sector in the two islands has grown dramatically, making a huge contribution to the prosperity of the region. Both Jersey and Guernsey are on the OECD’s ‘white list’ of jurisdictions committed to transparency and international cooperation, following the recent crackdown on the activities of so-called tax havens.
